Anybody With Sleep Apnea?
by prophecor inhow are you coping?
do you use a cpap machine or did you get surgery to correct your difficulties?
do you dread having to go to sleep, with the possibility that you may never awaken?

I have sleep apnea. I spent one night at a sleep institute for the study. The study requires several monitors so I wondered how I would possibly get to sleep wearing a wiring harness. I did sleep though and my sleep was being interupted by apnea up to 70 times an hour and my blood oxygen dropped to about 60%. Normal blood oxygen is 95-100%. The doctor gave me the option of surgery which he said was successful about 60-70% of the time with the bonus of having the feeling of swallowed razor blades for about a month or I could use a CPAP which was sucessful about 95% of the time with no painful recovery. I went with the CPAP. Getting used to wearing the mask took a while but now I miss it if I have to spend a night without it. Everyone else around someone with apnea sleeps better also after treatment. Before I wore the mask I rarely had dreams. Now I dream vividly almost every night because I am able to get to that deep stage 3 sleep where dreams occur. The CPAP has become my most valuable possesion. I would give up my Harley before I would give up the CPAP. If you think you have apnea get it checked out and treated.

A 12 year old getting baptized. Then the studpid announcement, "We had X many baptized, the youngest being just 12 years old" followed by a gasp from the crowd and applause. I found that troubling when I attended those things.

I had wireless service from a company called Monet. It was great to take my laptop anywhere in the service area (pretty much the Duluth-Superior area) and have access to the net. If I took my laptop on the boat I had good signals as far as 15 miles out on Lake Superior. It sucked when Monet went out of business. I thought they were onto a great thing. I do have WI-FI which is ok if I know where a hotspot is. I did read about a company that was experimenting with using power lines for the net. Ultimately they wanted to develop a system that would use the power cord as both power supply and a modem. Just plug into any outlet and you were online. That would be slick.

Here's one that is by Paul Thorn. He was the warm up act at a John Prine concert I attended. I bought his CD just because of this song.
"Joanie the Jehovah's Witness Stripper"
She drives a new car, wears expensive blouses
She tells her mama, she's cleaning houses
She goes out Witnessing, doing the Lord's work all week
But on the weekend, she's making ends meet
Chorus
Joanie the Jehovah Witness Stripper
Put a dollar in her g-string and she'll deliver
If her daddy only knew he'd prob'ly kill her
Joanie the Jehovah Witness Stripper
One night down at the club, her daddy walked in
He didn't recognize, his daughter dancin'
She wore a blond wig, he had sunglasses
When she got naked, he started clapping
Chorus
If you asked her why she did it she looks at it this way,
She says, "I'm counting my blessing every night when I get paid."
She once lived in poverty now everythings all right,
the Lord showed her how to make a thousand dollars a night

congregational cliques
by chuckyy init was my experience during my 13 yrs as a jw that congregations usually had a social clique.
in other words, there would be a group of people in a congregation that would only associate (and sometimes only go out on field service too) with people within that social clique.
if you were in the clique, fine.

The congregation I grew up in was pretty small and there were four of us who were the same age. Three of us went to one high school and I was the only witness in my school. Anyway, the three of them formed a clique and they would go do things together quite often. After they had gone out on an outing, they would always let me know what they had done. The conversation would go like this:
Them: "We went to a movie last night."
Me: "That must of been fun."
Them: "It was. We had a blast. We thought about calling you."
Me: "Oh."
Back then I didn't really know how to vebalize myself after being slapped down like that and I was pretty polite even when someone was being rude. To be honest it did hurt to be excluded especially being in an area where there were not very many people that I was allowed to be social with. If it happened today, after years of working construction and hanging out with bikers, I'd probably reply by saying something like, "Go f**k yourselves."

JW's and records
by frozen one inthis is a bit of an expansion on the above thread.... if memory serves (which is questionable), it seems that i read or heard that if a witness had employment which made them privy to files at work and if they saw something in the files that may be evidence of "wrong doing" that they were obligated to report the information to the elders.
for example, if a dub worked at a video store and saw that another witness had been renting r rated movies or (gasp) porn, the elders needed to know this.
or maybe a witness worked at a hospital and had access to medical files, the elders would need to know if anyone had been treated for vd, had a forbidden blood treatment, or if a sister had an abortion.

this is like nazi germany
If you have nothing to hide, why are you worried....
I thought this was an awful practice mandated by the wbts. This article isn't just about medical records. I'm sure that witnesses working for banks, credit card companies, libraries, law firms, the government - anywhere that has personal files on people - have looked through databases looking for dirt. I didn't notice in the article any mention of the fact that if caught the person who breeched the confidentiality would pay the price, not the elders or the wbts.

Who was told that the New order would be here before......................
by avishai inthey finished high school?
college?
etc and what year were you told?.

Over the years I had heard several people speculate about what could or could not be accomplished before the "end." Most of the time the comments were from rank and file witnesses and, looking back, I dismiss the comments as being nothing more than wishful thinking. However, in 1980 I was told by a CO that I would not finish college before the end. This statement was not from someone in the deluded "rank and file" class but from an official of the wbts. What he said had to be taken seriously. I did start college that fall but dropped out after one semester. Fast forward a decade and a half...I went back to college and graduated in 2001. Normally I don't hold grudges or wish ill on people, but I hope that CO is today living in a van down by the river or in a cardboard box under a bridge somewhere digging through dumpsters to feed himself.

Do Jehovah's Witnesses keep records on people?
by inquirer ini have known some people (i dont' know if it's true or not) [and i am the kind of person that doesn't like to cause trouble] who have said that jehovah's witnesses keep tabs/records on people.
all the things they have done like if they got babtized, personal problems/experiences, arguments they may had with people, and just their general conduct as well.
have any people here found out about a "black book" where they keep records on you?

I was told the details on the files are very graphic ...if for example it's a case dealing with fornication...they make a note of what positions the act was in, how many orgasms...was it one or were they multiple...how long the act took place...
I guess this is the wbts version of the "X Files."
